Action against deportation loves Brittans Damgympa - 10th of december in Stockholm
Dec 3, 2011
What happens at mynttorget on the 10th of december?Nazis and racists are going to have a demonstration at Mynttorget to spread their ideas about eugenics - "Stop the hostility against Swedes – In defence of the northern countries" according to the nazis themselves. The goal for Action against deportation and Brittans damgympa have 10th of December is therefore to take over Mynttorget in Gamla stan. We will use the square to gather, do gymnastics, play football and have fika (having coffee, sandwiches and cakes). We need to be alot of people, so that they won't get an opportunity to sneak in and steal our tights or our fika.
When and where?
We will be at Mynttorget in Gamla stan at 12 o'clock the 10th of December.
Why gymnastics?
We have chosen gymnastics as a strategi against the nazis, because we believe it's a strategy that will be successful. It plays down a difficult situation and we think it shows that everybody can participate and that you don't have to be macho to take a stand against racism and nazism. We want to create somthing of our own in this space and not just protest against their politics and against their violence. We believe that gymnastics in a creative and joyful way represents the opposite of what the nazis and racists advocates.
We have chosen a humouristic approach, but there is nothing humouristic about what the nazis want to create and what they think about people that are different from them. The history would have been quite different, if people had reacted against the nazis before to holocaust. The least we can do is to take their space and proclaim we don't agree with their perspectives. It doesn't require a macho attitude, just the will to act.
There will probably be people saying that everybody has the right to freedom of speech and right to assembly. We believe that if we disgard everything under these pretences then we have stopped taking responsability for the society and for eachother.
We believe that it's our responsability to act and to do it now. A society changes when people interact with the society and speaks up when things are fucked up. Through your participation you can show that you won't stand in silence when racism is spreading. Therefore, it's important that you participate. Together we can succeed.
How do we feel about a diversity of tactics?
We believe in a diversity of tactics. It means that we won't condemn other initiatives. We have chosen to do gymnasitics, but that doesn't mean that everybody has to do that. We believe that a diversity of tactics is a strenght and we welcome self-organization and other initiatives.
What about fika?
A café will contribute with breakfast-bags and some coffee so we have energy to start sporting. We'll also have sandwiches there, but it might not be enough for everybody so it's a good idea to bring food yourself so you have energy the whole day.
Do I have to wear tights?
Jane Fonda, tights, body and leg-warmers is just inspiration because we want Brittans Damgympa and Action against deportation to be in color. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in so you can do gymnastics as smoothly as possible, play football or fika for hours.
What happens if the police want us to leave?
According to the law everybody has the right to assembly. In other word, we have the right to be at Mynttorget and do gymnastics. The police will probably say that the nazis have permission to be there from 2 o'clock and that we have to move to a designated area. When such a situation occurs we have people that will talk to the police, so that we can focus on gymnastics. We will stay on the square because our goal is to prevent the nazis from gathering there.
What happens if the nazis tries to steal our tights?
The nazis may try to steal our tights. We look amazing and they will surely envy Action against deportation and Brittans Damgympa. If this happens we have ofcourse the right to defend ourselves, but because we're there for the gymnastics we try to avoid confrontations and as soon as possible turn the attention back to our group and keep the fire burning.
Who can join?
Everybody who wants to protest against racism and nazism is welcome. If you want to protest, but think that gymnastics is very boring, if your legs hurt or you'd rather have a fika - you are ofcourse just as welcome anyway.

Practical information
What do you need with you during the day?
Except the clothes you want to exercise in, it may be a good idea to have something to change into later. Especially if you intend to have something colorful when you do gymnastics. When you leave you might want to blend in with others better and bring less conspicuous looking clothes.
If you don't want to be fotographed by the nazis you can ofcourse hide your face in some way. We encourage you to try to find a creative way to do it, maybe a funny wig or a masque in silver or maybe make-up in funny patterns (and remember to bring wet tissues so you can remove the make-up).
Bring a lot of water beacuse it's probably going to be a long day. Something to eat is also a good idea so you have the enerygy to stay the whole time. We'll need things that makes sounds, like a whistle, a vuvuzuela or somethign else - please bring with you.
Take care of eachother
It's a good idea to be together with friends when you go to and from Mynttorget. It's more safe and more fun to be with others. it can also be a good idea to talk within your group about how you think you'll react in different situations so you know how to best take care of eachother. Together we are safer and stronger, divided we're vulnerable.
A few questions you can use when talking in your affinitygroup:
* What triggers me? (ex. dogs, pepperspray, small spaces, the smell of coffee)
* How do I act when I'm happy, sad, stressed, scared, nervous?
* What kind of support do I need in these situations?
* What is my limits in these situations?
* Which are my strenght and weaknessess?
* What do my comrades need to remind med about?
* What feeling will I not recognize?
If you travel from other countries, cities and villages
Please tell us a few days before if you are coming, if you need a place to sleep, so we know how many you are and so that we can ensure you a place. It may also not be possible to get to the sleepingplace until late saturday evening if you arrive early saturday morning.
You're also welcome the 9th of december for the meeting , so you'll get all the information that is necessary for the 10th. We'll meet at Café 44, Tjärhovsgatan 44-46, metro Medborgarplatsen.
